Drivers of Vauxhall Belmonts are the most likely to have their cars stolen, are the startling results from a new Home Office study. The Vauxhall Belmont came ahead of Vauxhall Astras, Ford Escorts and Austin Metros in a list of the most stolen cars in 2005.
The research also revealed that the overall number of thefts in the UK has fallen by 16% between 2004 and 2005, with 38,394 fewer car thefts.
John Reid, the Home Secretary, commented: "That is a testament to the effort of all those working with police and manufacturers to make cars more difficult to steal."
In addition to improvements of in-car security systems, such as alarms and immobilisers, the reduction in the number of thefts has also been attributed to the increased use of physical security devices, such as parking posts.
These simple devices protect cars parked in driveways, private car parks and garages by providing a physical barrier to anyone wishing to move your car. Simply put, you cannot move the car without removing the parking post.
If you are looking to purchase a parking post in a bid to increase the security of your car parking area, then Carpark Barriers Turnstiles can help. We supply, install and maintain parking posts, all of which have a proven record in minimising the risk of your car being stolen.
Following the revelation that older vehicles were most frequently stolen, the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders has urged drivers of these cars to take simple steps to protect them. The simple implementation of a steering lock may be enough to discourage a thief from targeting your car.
