A train’s windscreen was struck by a damaged pylon due to the theft of overhead power lines. Network Rail said the thefts were widespread on lines, some of which came down in Essex late on Wednesday, September 21. Services in Essex and Cambridgeshire were severely disrupted, and the Stansted Express route was suspended for several hours. There were no trains to Stansted Airport or Cambridge from London Liverpool Street until late afternoon of the day after the theft.
