A Chamber of Commerce member has objected to plans to charge for entry to public conveniences. The drastic measure is one of a number of scenarios to meet savings targets in the Roman city of Chichester. Iain Shepherd, of the Chichester Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said charging people would be a “penalty on the elderly”. The council has other options – and if the payment one is not approved, then it may have to close down public toilets.
