New legislation will be introduced at the end of the year to stop cash being used to buy and sell metal at scrap dealers. British Transport Police (BTP) said they are keen to work with scrap metal dealers who they see as part of the solution, not the problem. A BTP spokesman said of a partnership with the dealers: “We will be working with them to enforce this code of conduct until legislation kicks in later in the year.”
