“If you’ll latch it, they will pay” seems to be the motto of a new campaign by the Los Angeles subway authorities, who’ve decided to mitigate the high number of “free entries” to the trains by installing secure access gates.
Not surprisingly, this move has led to a significant increase in ticket sales (whether we’re talking about single rides or more complex passes), as well as a sharp decrease in the number of people “eluding” the fares.
Given the successful results of this initiative, the subway authorities are determined to implement it throughout more stations in their network, thus further reducing losses.
