Network Rail has recently had barriers installed at one of most dangerous level crossings in the Thames Valley, at Shiplake, on the Berkshire/ Oxfordshire border.
According to the company’s statements, the level crossing’s flashing lights were largely ignored by motorists and pedestrians alike, making it particularly dangerous. In fact, it seems that, since 2009, there have been 39 reports of misuse and 13 near misses on the site.
