Automated traffic barriers are set to be re-installed on the Itchen Toll Bridge in Southampton, according to a news report.
The automated toll system allows motorists to pay the toll with coins or a Smartcities smartcard, and used to feature automated barriers that were removed earlier this year after a fault with their sensors caused them to crash down on four vehicles, including a motorbike.
However, now that traffic on the bridge is back to normal, putting back automatic barriers can be done fairly easily, council representatives say. The money from the tolls is used for the bridge maintenance.
