The Hull and East Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust has managed to raise an impressive 1 million pounds a year in car park charges alone, a recent media report has revealed.
A representative of the Trust officially stated that they’re actually not making a profit out of the charges, as all of the funds are used for operating and maintaining the hospital car parks.
“The trust does not look to make a profit from parking charges but we do need to cover the costs incurred in providing parking facilities to ensure funds do not have to be taken from healthcare budgets instead” he said.
Up until now, only visitors were charged for using the various car parks managed by the Trust, but they’re now planning to introduce parking charges for staff to help raise even more revenue. Naturally, a consultation with the staff and their union representatives has been launched, with the latter being quite unsatisfied with the prospect of having to pay for parking.
