Following a series of incidents and near misses, automatic barriers have been installed on a busy crossing on Scunthorpe’s Tata Steel works, a news report in the local media has revealed.
The crossing on Perimeter Road near the continuous casting plant used to operate with warning lights, but works safety officials took action after it was discovered some motorists were ignoring the warning signs and failing to stop.
The crossing is used as a right of way to transport hot slag in carriers which can weigh up to 90 tonnes, and any incident involving these transports could have potentially fatal consequences.
The vehicle barriers developed by Car Park Barriers & Turnstiles can work in any weather, are able to immediately recognise authorised personnel and are supplied complete and ready to accept power and data connections, meaning that they can be easily interlinked with a new or existing access control system. Plus, boom arms are available in a number of different lengths to suit various road widths.
Last, but certainly not least, it’s important to mention that the automatic car park barriers supplied by Car Park Barriers & Turnstiles can also be fitted with a number of useful extras, such as a folding arm mechanism, impact release mechanism or hanging racks / barrier skirts.
