Permanent access restriction systems in the form of bollards are to be installed under the bridge on Fornham Road in Bury St Edmunds in order to prevent cars from parking on the pavement in the area, a recent news report in the local media was able to reveal.
Suffolk county councillor Mark Ereira, who represents the Tower division where the bridge is located, said he was “pleased” that bollards are going to be installed on both sides of the road. “You cannot be parking on the pavements where people need to walk; people with guide dogs, pushchairs and young children. It’s just not something that can be permitted,” he said.
The bollards would be in place in the next four to six weeks. Sergeant Alistair Torkington from Bury Central Safer Neighbourhood Team also commented on this announcement: “We are aware of parking problems in Fornham Road near to and underneath the bridge. We are working with Suffolk County Council to find a long-term sustainable solution to the issue.”
The Static Bollards supplied by Carpark Barriers Gates & Turnstiles are equally suitable for both ground or surface mount, are highly flexible in most situations and are available in both cast iron and wood versions, which means that customer will be able to choose either strength or cosmetic appearance, depending on the specific circumstances within which the bollard is set to be mounted.
From simple light weight timber bollards for demarcation purposes, separating pedestrians from traffic or for protecting vulnerable points like corners of buildings that could be accidentally hit by vehicles, static bollards are highly versatile and provide a genuine deterrent.
