Rising bollards installed in Kettering town centre and aimed at preventing cars from driving through the mainly pedestrianized area are set to become operational in the near future, a recent news report in the local media has been able to reveal.
The work, which has cost about £250,000, began in March and is nearly completed. The new rising bollards will prevent traffic from entering the town centre in High Street, Lower Street, Meadow Road and Gold Street.
Manually operated bollards will be installed at the bottom of Meeting Lane and fixed bollards are also being placed at the entrance to Wadcroft.
The council says the bollards will not prevent delivery vehicles, but these will be restricted to arrivals between 5pm and 9am on Sunday to Thursday and between 5pm and 8am on Friday and Saturday and delivery vehicles will have swipe cards.
