Advanced ticketing systems featuring automatic number plate recognition cameras and automatic barriers will go live in six Tamworth town centre car parks next month, a recent news report in the local media has been able to find.
Visitors parking in council-run car parks in Aldergate, Bolebridge Island, Church Lane, Holloway, Hospital Street and Mill Lane will have to input their full registration numbers into the new machines when buying a pay and display ticket.
Automatic number plate recognition cameras installed at the entrance to the car parks will then recognise the number plate of vehicles and log the time of entry and purchase of a ticket or cashless transaction. They will also link to the handheld machines used by the community wardens.
They will also link to a phone and pay application, which will allow motorists to extend parking time using their mobile phones.
The new machines will be installed for a trial period of 18 months – and there are hopes to roll out the machines to other car parks in the town centre, if they are a success.
