New bollards will be fitted in a dangerous junction in Rotherham in order to prevent impatient motorists from mounting the kerb to avoid queueing in traffic, a local news report has been able to find.
The traffic restriction measures will be installed junction of Aston Way and Main Street, in Aughton, as a result of the cooperation between Aston-cum-Aughton Parish Council and Rotherham Borough Council.
Cllr Lyndsay Pitchley, parish council chairman, said drivers often mounted the kerb at the junction to turn left towards Aston Academy instead of waiting in the queue of traffic turning right towards Rotherham. The junction – next to the Robin Hood pub – is the main route from Aston and Aughton into Rotherham and traffic often backs up during morning and afternoon rush hours.
According to members of the parish council, the bollards could be installed within three months, subject to final approval of funding from Rotherham Borough Council.
