Swindon’s town centre car parks will receive £99,000 worth of new security measures in a bid to reduce anti-social behaviour and rough sleeping in the area, a recent news report has been able to suggest.
Following a spate of anti-social behaviour that affected all the sites for the best part of a year, Swindon Borough Council has decided to install lockable steel barriers and gates at the Brunel North, Brunel West and Fleming Way sites.
The new security measures are aimed at keeping the car parks secure even when they are closed to the public overnight and returning them to a safe state for paying customers to use in comfort.
Previously, although vehicle access has been restricted by a simple entry and exit barrier, the open nature of the sites has meant that rough sleepers and those wishing to remain out of public view for sinister reasons could still gain access on foot.
But now the Brunel North and Fleming Way sites will see steelwork installed on vehicle ramps and in the stair towers to prevent access to the upper-floors.
