Local residents in Hartshill, Stoke on Trent, are asking local authorities to install bollards at the entrance of an alleyway in order to stop it from being used by drivers as a rat-run, a recent news report in the local media has been able to suggest.
Families in Hartshill say the alley which connects Riseley Road and Ashwell Road is used as a shortcut by motorists trying to avoid traffic on Hartshill Road.
A bollard was installed some years ago but has since been taken out and moved, and residents are worried for the safety of pedestrians.
Now they want the bollard reinstated amid fears a pedestrian could be hit.
An un-named Riseley Road resident said: “This has been going on for years and it’s got worse over the last 12 to 18 months. The drivers shoot down the alleyway as a way of avoiding Hartshill Road.
“It’s particularly dangerous when children are coming from school. I’m also worried about the safety of people walking with their dogs.
