Finnich Glen near Kilearn, Scotland has submitted plans for a £1.5m tourist hub in order to improve the overall safety of the site.
The glen was used often in popular TV show Outlander. As a result, visitor numbers to the site have risen from 40,000 per year to 70,000.
This is causing safety concerns, with police needing to tackling visitors parked dangerously along roadsides, and emergency services needing to rescue multiple visitors.
The farmer and owner of the land, David Young, has ideas for a full transformation. The most basic changes he wants to make, costing £1.5m, include a public car park for 150 cars and 5 coaches, safety barriers and a “modestly staffed” visitor centre. Investors are interested, but David Young needs to acquire planning permission first.
David said: “The whole project is to safeguard the glen from the negative impact from the increase in footfall which has seen a deterioration in the area.
“Because of the numbers coming to Finnich Glen it is negatively impacting on our farming.”
